31.10.2016 | Bestseller in Aarhus, designed by C.F. Møller, has been awarded the Natural Stone Prize 2016.

Every year, Stenhuggerlaget (the Stone Masons' Guild) in Denmark awards the Natural Stone Prize, which this year goes to Bestseller's new head office, designed by C.F. Møller. The prize recognises the creative use of the trade's potential, in respect for its traditions and working methods.
Bestseller has a prominent location on the waterfront in the Port of Aarhus. The new domicile building is faced with Italian Grigio Bottarga limestone, which is also used inside the building.
"Limestone is used to an extent which you don't see often in Denmark. Bestseller's building has an expression in which natural stone materials of high quality are in focus, both in the interior and exterior. We're giving the prize to Bestseller in the hope that more people will become aware of the clean and more organic expression of natural stone," says guildmaster Ole Buchhave Grage about the reason for the prize to Bestseller.

A proud C.F. Møller
C.F. Møller is known for focusing on sustainability in both the aesthetic and concrete sense, by using quality materials in a new and modern way, in collaboration with the client.

"The Natural Stone Prize is something to be proud of, since it's the result of an ambition shared between C.F. Møller and Bestseller to create quality and good conditions for employees via architecture and materials that are attractive, durable, and also show new ways of using well-known materials," says Julian Weyer, architect and partner at C.F. Møller. The building has previously received a Commercial WAN Award 2015 and Aarhus Municipality's Architecture Prize 2015.

Town within the city
Bestseller at Aarhus Port has an area of 46,000 sq.m. and around 800 employees work at the head office. The building consists of a number of building volumes, at different levels, which are connected by a variety of outdoor areas, including atria, terraces and roof-top gardens.
The effect of the mix of offices with outdoor areas is to create a sense of this being "a town within the city". The complex, which has canals and water on all four sides, marks the entrance to the new urban district on the Aarhus waterfront. The location has been very important to Bestseller:
"The building is at a central location in Aarhus, used by many people every day, so it's been important for us to build something attractive which fits the city and its other architecture," says Jesper Stubkier, communication officer at Bestseller, about the prize.

Using seawater
The location in the port area also creates opportunities to strengthen the building's sustainability. Bestseller e.g. uses seawater cooling and solar cells and the building is planned to be in low-energy class 2015.

Several prizes
Besides the head office, C.F. Møller designed Bestseller's Logistics Centre North near Haderslev, which supplies Bestseller's stores throughout Europe. The building has received The Plan Award - Honourable Mention 2015, the International Trimo Architectural Award 2012 and Commercial Building of the Year in the trade magazine Byggeri 2012.
The Natural Stone Prize 2016 will be presented on 9 November in the new Bestseller building, with speeches and guided tours for business associates.
