9.12.2015 | C.F. Møller's comprehensive renovation of Himmerland Housing Association's Departments 19 & 22 has been named by the construction sector as the Construction Project of the Year. Campus House Hall of Residence at the University of Southern Denmark has received an honourable mention.

The successful renovation of Himmerland Housing Association's Departments 19 & 22 in Aalborg is the best residential construction project of the year.

This is the verdict of a committee consisting of the leading organisations in the Danish construction sector. On Wednesday, 9 December, in Department 19 & 22's activity centre, the prestigious award was presented to representatives of the teams behind the Housing Association's almost 400 homes.

"The conversion and renovation of Himmerland Housing Association's Departments 19 & 22 in eastern Aalborg has transformed this quarter into a welcoming and sustainable complex with improved outdoor areas. New types of housing have been created by combining flats in an innovative way, bringing new life to the area," according to the jury and Magasinet Byggeri, which organises the presentation of the award.

Helping to change development
One of the major goals for the renovation of Departments 19 & 22 was to convert a public housing complex in a vulnerable area into a location that could attract a wide range of residents, and where security must be an overriding factor going forward.

"The renovation of Departments 19 & 22 is a fine example of how the built-up environment can change and reverse a negative development," the judges panel stated.

"This makes the project a valuable reminder that we must always seek quality and well-considered solutions in our residential areas, and especially in public housing complexes," the judges continued.

Honourable mention to Odense hall of residence
The Campus House Hall of Residence at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense was also named in the Construction Project of the Year awards.

This flagship hall of residence received an honourable mention from the panel of judges. The new hall of residence is based on the philosophy of good communities. The 250 student residential units are located in three connected 15-storey buildings. This means that the hall of residence has no rear side and looks attractive from every angle - 360 degrees around the building. The building's design makes it a striking landmark at the campus.

The panel of judges for the Construction Project of the Year comprises profiles from the Danish construction sector such as Scott Hollingsworth (Chairman, architect, HPC Danmark), Elly Kjems Hove (Sector Director, DI BYG (Confederation of Danish Industry - Construction)), Gyrithe Saltorp (Director, the Danish Building & Property Agency ), Hans Peter Svendler (Realdania), Henrik Garver (CEO, FRI (the Danish Association of Consulting Engineers)), Lars Storr-Hansen (CEO, the Danish Construction Association), Lene Espersen (Director, Danske ARK (the Danish Association of Architectural Firms)), Palle Thomsen (CEO, Danske Byggecentre (Danish building supplies centres)) and Peter Hesdorf (CEO, the Benchmark Centre for the Danish Construction Sector).
