The trade journal Byggeri (Building) has selected this year's best projects in three categories, commercial, residential and an open category. The jury points out that although the Bestseller Logistics centre is large and efficient as an airport, it has been designed with an architectural sensitivity that is able to lend the advanced technical equipment a human expression: "There are many logistics centres throughout the world, and most are rather ugly. It is a rare delight to see how much the designers, builders and not least the client have worked with the overall impression and working environment (...) Logistics Centre North is a masterful industrial plant that effortlessly combines raw technology with good materials and plenty of daylight - and is a continuation of the very best in the modern Scandinavian tradition" The aim from the beginning has been to create an industrial building that would go beyond the standardised, typical solutions of logistic buildings, and create a structure which would stand out in the landscape and add an experiential quality to its surroundings, while at the same time offering good working conditions and taking account of the environment. From the motorway can be seen the centre's two tall mini-load warehouses, each measuring approximately 6,000 m², towering up as distinctive silhouettes. They resemble sculptures in the landscape, with simple facades clad in narrow, vertical strips of pine - an enormous construction which nonetheless, thanks to its wooden facade, seems human and approachable. The warehouses for example have transparent gables which provide a glimpse of the cranes inside at work, and everywhere in the building, the emphasis is on getting in daylight and create closeness to the landscape and views, via courtyards and roof terraces. Sustainability has been in a major planning focus on, to make the centre a low-energy building with extensive green roofs, use of renewable energy and local handling of stormwater for example. The jury behind the selection of the "Buildings of the year 2012" was CEO Lars Storr-Hansen, Danish Construction Association, director Christian Lerche, the Danish Association of Architectural Firms, architect Scott Hollingsworth, CEO Henrik Garver, The Danish Association of Consulting Engineers and CEO Peter Hesdorf, The Benchmark Centre for the Danish Construction Sector.
