Shortlisted for Danish Centre for Particle Therapy

C.F. Møller in cooperation with NCC, Søren Jensen Engineers, Sweco and Tyréns are prequalified for the design & build competition for the Danish Centre for Particle Therapy (DCPT) at the new University Hospital in Aarhus.
Denmark is to have its first centre for particle therapy that can offer a new and gentler form of radiation therapy for cancer patients. The centre will be integrated as part of the New University Hospital in Aarhus, and C.F. Møller will now be developing a vision for how the framework of future cancer treatment should be designed. Preparations for the construction of the particle therapy centre have already started. In January, the American firm Varian Medical Systems was selected as supplier of the particle accelerator which will serve as the core of the centre. The complex accelerator generates the beams used in the particle therapy treatments. Aarhus is home to the largest and most active radiotherapy research cluster in Scandinavia, but DCPT will still be a big boost for particle therapy in Denmark. Currently, the Aarhus University Hospital is forced to send patients abroad to provide the necessary treatments. The first patients are expected to be treated at the Particle Therapy Centre in 2018. The final winner of the design & build competition will be selected in the course of 2015, and the NCC and C.F. Møller team are up against teams led by c.c. contractor, Hoffmann, KPC and MT Højgaard.
