Very little of the original Ringkøbing Swimming Centre now remains; instead, there are now some modern milieux which in combination go to make up a well-functioning and exciting swimming centre. Aqua centre The extensive renovations have come about as a result of an initiative by the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities, "New Life for Old Swimming Baths". Many Danish swimming baths were built around thirty years ago, and today are in such bad condition that they are threatened with closure. The ideas of C.F. Møller Architects in "New Life for Old Swimming Baths" provide suggestions for ways in which dilapidated swimming baths can be transformed into modern aqua centres. Ringkøbing Swimming Centre has functioned as a pilot project for the concept. The renovations have encompassed the pool area, water treatment and changing rooms, and energy and environmental solutions have been incorporated to make the centre more eco-friendly. A new mezzanine provides space for a multi-purpose room which offers the very best views of the fjord. The centre has also been augmented with a Turkish bath, saunas and massage rooms, and the local swimming club now has better conditions in which to provide swimming lessons.
