Three years ago the first sod was turned at the site of contruction for the New University Hospital Aarhus. After extensive user involvement, planning and land development, the construction of the first 30,000 m² new building has begun.
The construction start was marked by an event at the construction site west of the University Hospital in Skejby right next to the existing hospital buildings. Here, the regional council chairman Bent Hansen cast the first concrete foundation under the guidance of experienced builders.
Mega project
- With DNU we gather all the experts on one location and provide them with the latest technology and the best physical environment. This provides highly specialized treatment and world-class research, and it will benefit the citizens throughout the region, said Bent Hansen.
It is in many ways an ambitious vision, which is also reflected in the project scope. 216,000 new m² are to be built over the next six years, and when the construction activity is at its peak, about 1,200 builders will be working on the construction site at the same time.
The Managing Director of Rådgivergruppen DNU I/S, Klaus Bræmer-Jensen, also touched on the unique challenge of what he calls nothing less than a mega project.
- This is an extraordinary building in a scale that is rarely tried before. Also the shaping of the project has been carried out with methods not previously tested, said Klaus Bræmer-Jensen.
