The upcoming state prison in Falster will accommodate approx. 250 inmates. At the groundbreaking ceremony the Director of Prison Service William Rentzmann welcomed. In his speech, he went back to 1998, when it was decided that the old Danish prisons in Horsens and Vridsløselille were to be replaced. - The new prison will be built for the future, and this places great demands on us, said William Rentzmann. Minister of Justice Morten Bødskov mentioned the polical goals in his speech: - The prison should be organized so that the inmates upon completion of sentence do not come back. Only this way we can bring down the crime rate, said the Minister. Architect and partner in C.F. Møller, Anna Maria Indrio also gave a speech, where she praised the good work process. The new prison will be reminiscent of the surrounding villages. The complex is intended to provide a small, condensed urban environment with the kind of varied spatial experiences, functional density and clarity of layout that such an environment offers.
