Winner of Køge University Hospital Phase 1

Two proposals were selected yesterday to proceed in the competition to be the final lead consultant on the 189,000 square-meter and four billion kroner new University Hospital which includes and extends the C.F. Møller-designed Køge Hospital.
Regional Council Chairman Steen Bach Nielsen notes: "On behalf of the jury, I note that all the proposals have had an incredibly high level. All have contributed fine proposals and we have had some very enthusiastic discussions prior to publishing the jury's report. " But in fact there was no doubt in jury on the two projects to be selected: The two winning teams are headed respectively by C.F. Møller and aarhus arkitekterne. They have won over proposals led by the two British firms BDP and HOK, and Danish Friis & Moltke. C.F. Møller leads the consortium with engineers Alectia and Rambøll Denmark. Søren Jensen Engineers and Cubo Architects are on the team as sub-consultants. On 6 June, the Regional Council will name the final winning consultant group for the design of the university hospital. Only then will the designs from the participating groups in the competition be published. The existing Køge Hospital is located in a characteristic circular forest. The complex was designed by C.F. Møller in 1983-88, as a low, urban hospital with a simple circulation system and informal and friendly spaces and courtyards. The first sod for the new Køge University Hospital is expected to be turned around the end of year 2015, and construction will be completed in 2020. The university hospital will have about 900 beds and an area of approximately 189,000 m2, making it three times as large as the existing hospital, which will become an integral part of the new complex.
