Molde Culture School previously occupied rented premises that were not well-suited for its activities. It was therefore decided to create new teaching facilities on the town's old prison site, which is centrally located in the heart of Molde. C.F. Møller’s ambition for the project is to create an inspiring framework for the teaching of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and creative writing.

There are two listed buildings on the prison site – the town’s former prison and town hall. These were the starting point for the design of the new Culture School, which connects to both buildings, drawing inspiration from their architecture. Using the existing buildings ensures their preservation through consistent use and constant maintenance.

The new building consists of two volumes. The first storey is cast in concrete which is then sanded, while the two other two storeys have light timber cladding. The foundation is inspired by the existing brick prison building, while the timber cladding refers to Molde’s timber architecture. The new building contains the theatre, dance hall, blackbox and various rehearsal rooms, and is connected to the old buildings through a low intermediate building in which the school's main entrance is located.

The existing buildings have undergone modest and sober renovation. The prison, which previously consisted of prison cells and corridors with double ceiling heights, now holds the school’s reception area, teacher offices, and meeting rooms. The town hall now includes a mediathèque, meeting rooms and cloakrooms.
