Landscape

C.F. Møller Architects

In the wooded landscape of Vilnius, Northway Medical Centre encapsulates the principles of Healing Architecture.

The architecture seamlessly integrates with the sloping terrain, providing views of the scenic surroundings, ample daylight within the clinic, and the healing benefits of a connection with nature. Emphasising a modular structure with scaled-down volumes, spaciousness, and a non-institutional interior, the clinic exudes warmth and hospitality. Enhanced by verdant surroundings and abundant daylight, the design fosters an environment conducive to patient recovery and staff well-being. Flexibility, clear logistics, and efficiency are central to Northway Medical Centre, where standardized structures ensure adaptability to future needs. Streamlined workflows optimize space usage and enhance staff productivity. Through well-defined on- and off-stage areas, the design promotes a secure working environment and prioritizes staff welfare.

Harmonious and Efficient

The building comprises three scaled-down cubic volumes interconnected by a central and transparent glass structure – the heart of the complex – housing the entrance, lobby, and lounge. From this arrival building, one can gaze out to the green surroundings, where the building boasts a striking and harmonious presence in the landscape. The central area provides a vital overview of the clinic and access to the three volumes containing the clinical departments. On the upper levels of the glass structure, there are lounges, bright waiting areas, and access to rooftop terraces. Separated from the public areas in the arrival building are the treatment and ward sections in the three adjoining volumes. At the ground level, there are outpatient clinics and imaging services with close proximity to the waiting area. On the first floor, operating theatres, intensive care, and day units are closely connected and sheltered in relation to the public life on the ground floor. On the upper levels, the ward sections are organized around workstations, with views directly onto the treetops of the forest.

Nature and functionality meet in the architecture of Northway Medical Centre, creating a future-proof clinic focused on recovery and well-being for both patients and staff.
