The centre will be integrated into the overall plan for the New University Hospital in Aarhus, Aarhus University, and will further strengthen the interaction between cancer research at Aarhus University and the clinical practice at Aarhus University Hospital. Radiotherapy with protons and heavy ions is already used in international cancer treatment today, but Denmark does not have a specialized facility for particle therapy. The project has been developed by the University of Aarhus and Aarhus University Hospital, in cooperation with the DNU consultancy group which C.F. Møller Architects is part of. The radiotherapy building will become an integrated part of the architectural and landscaping concept that is guiding the New University Hospital's on-going construction.
