New port-side centre under way

The board of directors of the Port of Aarhus, among them the Mayor of Aarhus Jakob Bundsgaard, reached a unanimous decision to approve the design of the new Port Centre, designed by C.F. Møller. The Port Centre is expected to cost the city about DKK 200 million DKK.

The new Port Centre will unite many of the central functions at the Port of Aarhus in a central building complex, which is designed to form an extremely flexible facility. The Port Centre will include office space, a canteen, workshops, facilities for port workers, warehouse facilities and a cafeteria. Some of the Port Centre is earmarked to become leased office space for companies related to the port. Close to the centre, a gate and truck stop will also be built. This will be a five-storey building with a total area of 13,000 m². The centre will be located adjacent to the key operative areas of the port, such as the container terminal and Omniterminal. The location will have spectacular views and there will be open spaces all around the complex perimeter. Inspired by a desire to achieve best flexibility, the centre resembles an ice crystal. The initial complex will be an entity in itself but it will be possible subsequently to extend it. C.F. Møller has a wealth of experience in building on the Port of Aarhus. Our achievements include the masterplan which has steered port development since the 1990s until today. We received an award for the masterplan from Aarhus Municipality. The new Port Centre is expected to be completed early in 2016.
