The 6,600 m2 new buildings are tailored to house one of the world's largest and leading international centers of excellence for research and innovation in food of animal origin. The buildings contain offices, state of the art laboratories, including taste and odor laboratories, and a unique test center for foods, primarily meat products. "We look forward to moving into the world's most modern facilities, where we will develop comprehensive solutions for the meat industry and advise both our Danish and foreign clients on meat quality, abbatoir technology, eco-efficiency and food safety", states director Lars Hinrichsen from DMRI, Technological Institute. The campus of the Technological Institute was designed by architect Vilhelm Wohlert in the 1970s. The complex is located in a green sculpted landscape and is laid out in a spiral shape with a series of circular parking spaces. The individual departments are designed with simple and restrained aesthetics. The new buildings fit into the same simple idiom, but at same time add a modern twist by using, among other things, brick reliefs on prefabricated panels and continuous ribbon windows and projecting bay windows. C.F. Møller Architects is lead consultant with engineers Moe & Brødsgaard as sub-consultants, client advisor is Emcon and the contractor is Pihl. The new buildings are expected to be completed in February 2014, after which the 110 employees of DMRI move from Roskilde to Taastrup.
