Funding for the Copenhagen International School

With the support of a number of strong corporate foundations, the funding for Copenhagen International School's new school in the northern docklands of Copenhagen is now in place, and construction is expected to begin next spring.

CIS Nordhavn will bring together the school's current activities in Hellerup and Østerbro in a new joint international school with an expanded capacity of approx. 1,200 pupils aged 3 to 19 years. The new 22,400 m² School will be a major focal point in the Nordhavnen area, where urban development has started a little further south in the Århusgade neighbourhood. The school's aesthetic borrows from the powerful architecture that characterizes the port - with prismatic volumes and stacked containers. The building height varies from 16 m to 34 m, and the facades are staggered to make the most of the location. Along the school's south side runs a public promenade which takes on the character of an urban waterfront, which allows for accommodation and activities on land and water, including access to the water in the form of stairs, ramps and moorings. North of the school, the first part of a harbour park will be established that will eventually stretch all along the quay. The first part - along school - is designed as a "living room" for the enjoyment of residents as well as students at the school, as well as for physical activities that can be included in school curriculum. The enthusiasm of the business community for the school plans is emphasized by the support of several corporate foundations. Most recently, the four foundations Villum Foundation, Dampskibsselskabet Norden A/S // D/S Orient Foundation, the Hempel Foundation and the Augustinus Foundation together confirmed donations of over 50 million DKK. The support of the four funds comes in addition to the A.P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundations earlier commitment of 200 million DKK for the project, announced last year.
