Emergency and Infectious Diseases Unit, SUS - interior design solution
Regionservice Södra Skåne
C.F. Møller Architects has designed the new Emergency and Infectious Diseases unit in Malmö, the largest and most modern of its kind in Sweden. The round form was chosen to provide optimal logistics in relation to preventing the spread of infection, and the building provides a new, distinctive arrivals area for all of Skåne University Hospital.
In dialogue with the users, C.F. Møller Design worked on the layout and design of special fixtures, to create an expression that reflects the architecture right down in the details. This can for example be seen in the specially-designed, circular reception areas that reflect the building's geometry.
The round form, which creates easy access for all patients, is continued in a ceiling element that contributes to good acoustics.
The building’s colours are another example of a common element: the red, yellow and green shades of the facade, which are designed to harmonise with the surrounding buildings, are continued indoors, where the various colours also help to mark out the building's interior and make it easier for users to find their way around.
To support the daily work in teams, C.F. Møller Design has developed a concept with a single, dynamic office environment for doctors, nurses and secretaries, and a varied selection of workplaces, such as team sites for joint report-writing.
This design breaks down the traditional professional boundaries and facilitates cooperation.
