Incuba is a science park and a professional community for knowledge-intensive startups, spinouts, scaleups and corporates in an exciting environment that includes investors, mentors, researchers, students and business specialists.
The assignment for the IT/tech hub Katrinebjerg, with a network of over 100 companies, commenced with an initial study of functionality, flow, zoning and wayfinding and completed with a full interior design addressing colors, materials, furniture and bespoke fittings for all common areas — including the atrium, reception, restaurant, meeting and event facilities, and smaller shared zones such as kitchenettes and lounges.
The main challenge was to create a welcoming and coherent interior that accommodates the diverse users of the house — from entrepreneurs and students to staff and executives — and supports both formal and informal encounters and concentrated work. The interior concept was to craft a holistic spatial experience, where overarching coherence meets careful attention to materiality and detail. Colours, furniture and lighting elements were designed to match INCUBA’s visual identity and colour universe, while providing a calm yet modern atmosphere.
Promoting well-being and belongingness
The interior palette focuses on the tactility of materials — wood, metal, stained surfaces, recycled plastic, and a variety of textiles — to achieve both warmth and contrast. The result is an environment that is both durable and sensuous, promoting everyday well-being and a sense of belonging.
The interior contributes to the overall architectural identity by creating a friendly and open space for the community at Katrinebjerg — a place where people meet, study, collaborate, and exchange ideas. The project nods to local design by incorporating furniture and lighting from Aarhus-based brands.
