With an annual influx of around one million guests, Musikhuset Aarhus now far exceeds the capacity framework it was designed for in 1982. The task has been to upgrade and expand central service functions – café bar, foyer bar and cloakroom – to meet today's needs and ensure a contemporary guest experience.

The architectural solution encompasses renovation, reconstruction and new interior design executed with great respect for the Concert Hall's original design.

Increased capacity and better coherence

The new design of café, foyer bar and kitchen optimises the workflow, so that capacity, service and working conditions for staff are increased considerably. The materials used are light oak, brass, black granite and the most beautiful terrazzo, which together create an elegant, friendly and welcoming whole.

The café bar has been relocated closer to the façade and expanded, creating a new connection with the adjacent park. A new, semi-open café kitchen enables the preparation of lunch and light dishes and creates visual contact between the kitchen and guests. A new brass cooling display case highlights the kitchen's offerings and helps invite passersby and park visitors inside.

The foyer bar to the south has been expanded with four service stations, significantly increasing capacity before performances and during intermissions.

The cloakroom has been moved from a central and overloaded location in the foyer to a new position opposite "Filuren", integrated into a custom-built steel construction on the Great Hall's side stage. The relocation has freed up significant foyer space, which is now redesigned for relaxation, café events and flexible use for the Concert Hall's guests.

The project combines functional upgrading with architectural sensitivity, ensuring that the Concert Hall can continue to provide an attractive and well-functioning framework for future cultural life.
