The National Archives project was established as a public-private partnership (PPP) with private funding. The archives are also the first state PPP. This means that a private company has designed and built the archives, and will be responsible for their operation and maintenance until 2037. The PPP supplier will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and cleaning of the National Archives.

The National Archives are housed in a building with a very special function, which demands a special structure and technology. It is equipped with an advanced high-bay warehouse with a special shelving and truck system that makes it possible to quickly find and retrieve records. The archives also have to have a stable climate and high fire resistance in order to preserve the records as well as possible. The PPP solution has provided the space to develop good and innovative solutions to these issues.

C.F. Møller Architects has functioned as client consultant, and is also a sub-consultant for the architectural work.
