A complete renovation transformed Gravene from an unsightly parking lot into a classic, timeless urban space. The fountain from 1927 remains the centrepiece, and added features include a classical tree row, and asymmetrical water rills in pre-fab concrete. The geometrical granite paving rises gently towards the centre of the square, highlighting the fountain. The trickling rills re-circulate rainwater, and are lit at night by integrated optical fibres.

Concrete benches flank the square, and a slightly raised podium acts as a potential stage in the urban setting. The surrounding roadways are paved in cobblestone, and sidewalks in Haderslev’s classical yellow brick. Gravene has become the cities undisputed centre, and is often used for jazz-festivals, market days and other festivities.
