The plan is simple to realise, thereby keeping costs low. It anticipates a phased transformation of the industrial harbour, with three new cultural centres: a ‘cultural island’ where the two industrial silos will be preserved as a landmark, a new public service centre, and a recreational beach park. The new urban district will be characterised by housing and light industry along the banks of the fjord. The plot structure is based on the scale of the existing urban structure in Haderslev, and creates a variety of building options on the port. The layout provides the optional establishment of channels as part of the phased development, which together with promenades and public spaces creates a new cohesion between city and water. Based on the masterplan and associated designmanual for the area, a large part of the plan has been realized, of which C.F. Møller has been responsible for the residential development Fjordbyen with 10 Dutch-style terraced houses and 24 apartments, and the senior living community The Beach Houses with 48 homes.
