The street surfaces take the form of a four-metre-wide flagstone carpet in rose-grey granite, in which a grey-blue band of large granite flagstones has been inserted. The flagstone carpet is located in the centre of the street, and is bounded by grey chaussé stone along the building facades. The location of the blue-grey belt and its varied width emphasise the narrow, winding character of the pedestrian streets.

The artist Bjørn Nørgaard has decorated the three intersections between Nørregade and Horsstræde, Rådhusstræde and Sct. Jørgens Gade with large circular and arching granite surfaces. The decoration integrates both water and light.
