Vestfold Hospital, 6th phase

The hub of the extension is the new central atrium which links all the storeys. The atrium collects and distributes light to the surrounding departments, and is situated near the main entrance, the hospital’s natural centre.

The architecture of the atrium emphasises the dynamics of the hospital: here we gain an impression of the busy traffic on the balconies behind the open filigree of wooden slats, and this is also where we gain access to the common public functions: the canteen, café, library, meeting-rooms, auditorium and shop. The choice of materials, substantiality and detail aims at a Nordic tone.

The sixth phase at Vestfold Hospital forms part of the overall master plan for the complex.
