With respect for the history of the area and its green surroundings, modern facilities are being created that support both elite and grassroots sports. The architecture of the athletics stadium is designed to integrate gently into the landscape with an open and inviting design. The grandstand roof is constructed of timber elements that both create a warm and natural atmosphere and contribute to a pleasant microclimate. The grandstand building functions not only as a spectator area, but also as an active part of the training facilities. Sportens Hus will be a hub with an open ground floor that integrates cycling facilities and creates synergy between the different sports for athletes across disciplines, with flexible living spaces, training facilities and academy housing.
Climate-friendly solutions and landscape adaptation
The project has a strong focus on sustainability with the reuse of existing materials and buildings as well as a conscious use of wood and natural materials to reduce the CO2 footprint. In addition, the project is based on energy-efficient solutions, where the choice of materials and the design of the buildings ensure optimal use of daylight and reduced energy consumption. In addition, a coherent urban space is ensured with good connections between athletics, cycling and the recreational areas in Kongelunden. The landscape is designed with terrain-adapted solutions, where the athletics stadium is placed in a natural depression to optimize wind conditions and create a harmonious transition to the surrounding forest areas. The new athletics stadium and Sportens Hus create a modern sports destination that promotes activity, community and quality of life for Aarhus' citizens for generations to come.
