Adapted to the surroundings
The new extension to the school consists of key functions on four floors: a double-height assembly hall, and classrooms interwoven with large and small common areas and niches. The heart of the building, the assembly hall, is a flexible and transparent space that opens in two directions: toward the city and the green schoolyard. With its large glass facades, the assembly hall stands out clearly in the cityscape and interacts with both the urban space and the schoolyard. The roof terrace offers a variety of inspiring and flexible outdoor areas, directly adjacent to the classrooms, which can be incorporated into lessons. Typical of Randers, the surrounding built environment is characterized by historical brick buildings with a high level of detail, which is reflected in the architecture of the new building, with red clinker brick facades and a roof covered with red shingles. The schoolyard facades consist of reddish-tinted concrete elements, and a wooden pergola serves as a framework for a series of climbing plants.
