Amphitrite, Malmö's new university building, embodies a flexible and inclusive design that supports Malmö's ambition to evolve into an international city of knowledge. The proposal, 'Storehouse of Knowledge,' envisions a dynamic structure that fosters learning, collaboration, and diversity. Parts of the historic warehouse on the site are preserved, while the new building's exterior reflects the area's industrial heritage with a transparent and open expression. Inviting entrances and a vibrant interior organized around a circular atrium create welcoming spaces for students and residents of Malmö.

The building integrates seamlessly into Universitetsholmen, serving as a hub for the university's faculties. It features generous public areas and learning environments, including lecture halls designed to support the entire university. Additionally, the building will house Malmö University's Faculty of Odontology (Dental School), with dedicated learning and administrative spaces. The ground floor opens up to the city and the quay, forming an active new urban meeting place in harmony with the surroundings of the Southern Harbour Basin.

A Circular Approach

Amphitrite adopts a circular approach, prioritizing the reuse and repurposing of the existing structures and materials wherever possible. Health and well-being are promoted through optimal access to natural daylight, open views, easily accessible outdoor areas, healthy material choices, integrated landscape design, and comfortable working environments. Constructed as a hybrid structure emphasizing timber and recycled materials, the building ensures a robust and adaptable framework for the future.
