Between Aarhus city centre and the lush nature towards Brabrand lake, lies Block D in the neighborhood Brokvarteret. Brokvarteret is diverse in its architectural expression, its composition of residents and its location, where the link to the city and nature is emphasised by a continuous boulevard, connected to the nature trail Brabrandsti, with alleys and seating areas.

Block D contains townhouses, apartments, and businesses – and has a sculptural composition based on different forms and a varying scale, as well as spatial shifts and reliefs, so that the block alternates in expression with a striking shift of light and shadow. Bricks in natural colors with different tones are used throughout the block, emphasising the alternation between colours, shapes, and other materials.

Part of a whole

The apartments are in red brick, while the townhouses are in light-coloured brick. Facing the inner courtyard, the residents have shared green gardens. The courtyard is raised one level above street level, giving residents both more hours of daylight in the courtyard and space for bicycle parking beneath. Facing the alleys, the block meets the urban space with seating and outer zones that link naturally with the green areas of the neighborhood and contribute to a green and lively impression of Brokvarteret.

For Block D – as for the whole of the neighborhood Brokvarteret – there is room for all types of housing, communities, and people. With its variety in functions and expressions, and its direct interaction with urban space and green areas, the block contributes to the overall impression of the neighborhood as a dynamic and diverse, as well as green and vibrant urban environment.
