The proposal reimagines the company’s headquarters as a contemporary campus landmark that reflects Rohde & Schwarz’s culture of technological excellence and fosters interaction, knowledge sharing and flexibility. Grounded in the concept of “Creative Structure”, the design is organised around a clear supergrid that promotes transparency, spatial connectivity and adaptability throughout the workplace. The building establishes a strong identity within the evolving Werksviertel while maintaining continuity with the existing Rohde & Schwarz campus.

The headquarters comprises a five-storey podium arranged around a central atrium and a 65-metre tower rising from the south-eastern corner of the site. The orthogonal composition aligns with the district framework plan and creates a clear, recognisable silhouette in the local skyline. The architectural expression is defined by inclined structural pilasters supporting exposed floor slabs, yielding a tectonic language that balances robustness with refinement. The façade engages with the surrounding urban context while presenting a distinct, contemporary identity.

Connection is key

At the heart of the project, the atrium serves as a social and organisational hub. It links showrooms, conference facilities, training spaces, work environments and informal meeting areas through a sequence of interconnected volumes and double-height spaces. Strategic voids create visual connections between floors and encourage collaboration across departments.

Landscape integration is a key element of the design. The project strengthens connections to the existing campus park and introduces new pedestrian routes and public spaces linking the Rohde & Schwarz campus to the wider Werksviertel. Recessed ground-floor areas, planted zones and a park-like corridor enhance accessibility, support everyday activity and contribute to a cohesive urban environment.
