C.F. Møller Architects Celebrates the Completion of WoodHub—Denmark’s Largest Timber Office Building

C.F. Møller Architects proudly announces the completion of WoodHub, a groundbreaking government office hub in Odense that sets a new benchmark for low carbon timber construction in Denmark.

Spanning 31,000 m² and accommodating 1,600 public employees, WoodHub stands as the country’s largest timber building and exemplifies C.F. Møller’s commitment to climate-conscious and human-centred architecture.

Situated on Lerchesgade in central Odense, WoodHub consolidates eight state institutions under one roof, promoting collaboration and operational efficiency. The building’s design features two staggered C-shaped wings connected by a seven-story central volume, creating a flexible framework that balances individual workspaces with shared meeting areas and social zones. Publicly accessible courtyards, roof terraces, and green spaces enhance biodiversity and foster community engagement.

A defining feature of WoodHub is its extensive use of solid timber—visible glulam columns and partially exposed cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors serve as primary structural elements. This approach reduces the building’s carbon footprint by an estimated 5,400 tons over a 50-year lifespan and contributes to a warm, tactile interior atmosphere. The façade, composed of recycled aluminium in red-brown hues, harmonises with the surrounding brick architecture, reflecting a thoughtful integration into the urban fabric.

Thue Borgen Hasløv, Partner and Architect at C.F. Møller Architects, reflects on the project:

“WoodHub is a milestone in Danish architecture—a large-scale public building that demonstrates how timber can be used as a sustainable material and to create healthy, inspiring workplaces. It’s a testament to what’s possible when visionary clients and collaborative teams come together with a shared commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.”

Commissioned by the Danish Building and Property Agency (Bygningsstyrelsen), WoodHub was realised in collaboration with NCC as the turnkey contractor and Artelia as the consulting engineer. The project underscores a growing shift in Denmark’s public construction sector toward low-carbon, adaptable building solutions.

WoodHub is more than a workplace—it’s a forward-looking model for climate-friendly urban development and a symbol of future Danish timber architecture.
