Aarhus-Hallen reaches an important milestone in the ongoing design process

C.F. Møller Architects presents how the upcoming Aarhus-Hallen, a multi-sports hall featuring a cycling track and a community hub, could look.

After extensive work with analyses, dialogue, user workshops and design sketches, C.F. Møller Architects has now reached the point where the first overall visualisations of Aarhus-Hallen can be presented. The new images and sketches show the status of the development and provide a strong impression of how the vision of Aarhus’s new sports and community hall can take shape. The multi-hall with cycling track will become a modern sports and community facility, bringing together grassroots sport, elite athletics and the city’s strong association life.

The project is being led by the commercial foundation Aarhus-Hallen with support from, among others, the Salling Foundations and Aarhus Municipality. So far, funding has covered the initial project development and design phase – a stage intended to establish a robust basis for further dialogue and the upcoming work to realise the project.

“With financial contributions to project development from, among others, the Salling Foundations and Aarhus Municipality, the Aarhus-Hallen project has taken a significant step forward. The new visualisations make clear and tangible what a fantastic sports facility this could become – for the benefit and enjoyment of the entire city,” says Christian Skadborg, Chairman of Aarhus-Hallen.

A hall for both everyday life and world-class events
Aarhus-Hallen will be a diverse gathering point in Kongelunden, where everyday sport, community and international sporting events can all take place. The hall’s 360° open architecture makes the building welcoming from every side and ensures natural integration into the landscape.

Inside, flexible modules and timber elements enable quick adaptation to various sports, workshops, and events. In this way, the hall will become a vibrant centre all year round.

“Aarhus-Hallen will be the home ground for everyday sports communities, and therefore it is enormously valuable and relevant that we have listened to the wishes and needs of Aarhus’s sports associations. Aarhus-Hallen has now taken shape, so hopefully many more can engage with the project and help make it a reality,” says Julie Leth, Vice-Chair of Aarhus-Hallen.

Focus on climate responsibility
C.F. Møller Architects has designed the hall with a strong focus on climate-friendly solutions. The building will be constructed with low-carbon structures, green roofs and the use of local resources. Circular principles, rainwater harvesting and renewable energy sources minimise the environmental impact.

“With Aarhus-Hallen, we want to unite sport, community and climate responsibility. The project shows how a modern multi-hall can be inclusive, functional and climate-friendly – a beacon for sport and community in Aarhus,” says Jonas Toft Lehmann, Partner and Architect at C.F. Møller Architects.

Financing and next steps

With the ongoing design phase, initial analysis, feasibility studies and user involvement, the first steps have been taken towards realising the vision of a new sports and community hall in Aarhus.
The project has a total construction budget of around DKK 250 million, and the foundation behind it is now working purposefully to raise the remaining funds. With the new visualisations and broad support from the city’s sports associations, the foundation has been laid – and the process continues to attract more partners and contributors who want to help create Aarhus’ new powerhouse for sport, community and climate-friendly building.
The next step in the project is a workshop on 2 October, where the new sketches and visualisations will be presented to the associations, and where participants will have the opportunity to provide further input into the development.
