Now the municipality's administrations will be gathered under the same roof again. The new municipal hall in Enköping, Sweden is being built on the property where the old municipal hall used to stand, close to Enköping's most popular park. The building will be four storeys high and have a gross floor area of around 5 300 square metres. The office building will be a workplace for around 450 employees. The new municipal hall will provide Enköping municipality with a modern and efficient meeting place for its employees and citizens.

Focus on sustainability

The municipal hall will meet high sustainability requirements and will be certified according to BREEAM, level Excellent. The building will also fulfil energy class A according to the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's requirements. The climate impact will be very low, partly because wood is the primary building material, supplemented by climate-improved concrete. In addition, efficient energy solutions are used to achieve a low energy requirement during operation. Value words such as "Enköping's best workplace", "A meeting place that creates commitment" and "A thoughtful building" have characterised the process and the design of the building, where great focus has been placed on sustainability in all forms.

– We are proud that Enköping Municipality has entrusted us with the design of the new municipal building. In the floor plans, the meeting place has been a central word in the design, in how you move around the building, where the personal hub is located, where the coffee stations are located and how the functions can be used efficiently during all hours of the day. We look forward to the process ahead, to work with the municipality to design their new creative workplace with the opportunity to meet and collaborate. We strive for sustainable and long-term architecture with synergies with its surroundings, and this unique location provides excellent conditions," says Sara Nilsson, architect at C.F. Inviting and functional

The municipal building is placed as a backdrop in the park, and will be planned to be inviting, experiential and functional for the 450 employees who will work in the building and for visitors. The building is a hybrid construction where the aim is to create a strong sense of wood. The building's entrance floor contains mainly external activities such as meeting rooms, meeting lounge, wedding room and reception. Upwards in the building there are activity-based workplaces and support functions. On the top floor there is a dining room with access to a large roof terrace in the south-west, an internal café and further meeting functions. The terrace enables outdoor living in both sun and shade and offers both areas for outdoor lunch and outdoor work. Two smaller light courts create spatiality and visual connections through the building.

C.F. Møller Architects is the architect, Skanska develops and builds the municipal hall, and Vacse will be the long-term property owner when the building is completed. Subject to planning permission, construction is scheduled to start in November this year and the new municipal building is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025.
