The Dutchman House is a transformation of an iconic industrial building located in the northern part of the Dalum Paper Factory area, next to the Odense River. This ambitious project breathes new life into an area of significant historical importance. The history of the Dutchman House is deeply rooted in the heart of the Dalum Paper Factory, where the Dutch paper machine once revolutionized paper production. The transformation of the Dutchman House creates 20 exclusive apartments with high ceilings and an aesthetic that pays homage to history by preserving the ambience and character of the original structure.

The core of the transformation is to preserve and enhance the building's distinctive industrial features. The large, prominent industrial windows are retained, and recessed balconies are added, providing a beautiful view of the river and the surrounding green landscape. Ground-floor apartments feature delightful terraces that can be customized to reflect individual tastes.

High-ceilinged rooms with a minimum height of four meters create an airy and spacious ambience. The contrast between raw concrete frames and warm materials like wood creates a unique atmosphere that defines each space.

Preserving cultural heritage with a modern twist

Apartments vary in size from 120 to 200 square meters, each with its own character. At the top, a penthouse apartment boasts extra high ceilings and a tower plateau with panoramic views.

Large aluminium windows ensure optimal natural light. The former red brick facade is recycled and combined with new rustic bricks to maintain the building's industrial aesthetic. Access to the apartments is through a spacious central staircase that receives daylight from skylights.

The Dutchman´s House contributes to the overall development of the Dalum Paper Mill, transforming it from a grey industrial area into a new green and vibrant neighbourhood. It plays a significant role in the comprehensive development plan for the area, led by C.F. Møller Architects.
