The laying of the foundation stone for NTNU Campus Trondheim marks a new milestone in the development of one of the largest campus projects in the Norwegian university sector. C.F. Møller Architects is helping to shape the long-term transformation of the campus on and around Gløshaugen.

 

On Monday 14 September, the foundation stone was laid for NTNU Campus Trondheim. The project will bring together a number of the university’s academic communities on and around Gløshaugen, creating better conditions for collaboration, research, education, innovation and knowledge exchange across traditional disciplinary boundaries.

The campus development comprises up to 91,000 m² of new construction and refurbishment and will accommodate approximately 8,250 students and 1,300 staff. The project has an overall budget framework of approximately NOK 7.3 billion and is being delivered through a series of sub-projects towards 2030, several of which are already under construction.

 

For C.F. Møller Architects, the project is as much about developing an existing campus environment as it is about creating new buildings. New connections, urban spaces, landscape and buildings will strengthen the coherence of the campus while reinforcing the relationship between the university and the city of Trondheim.
The work builds on C.F. Møller Architects’ long experience in developing university environments, stretching back to Aarhus University and its University Park, which the practice has helped develop since the 1930s, and continuing through to today’s complex campus environments, where existing architecture, transformation, landscape and new functions must work together as a coherent whole.
