The opening was marked by festivities along the entire waterfront. Skibladner, which this year celebrates its 170th anniversary, opened proceedings with a cannon salute, followed by music, choral singing, brass bands, speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and, not least, a host of activities for people of all ages. Later in the evening, Solplassen was inaugurated with dancing, a big band, refreshments, and live music.

Mjøsfronten is being developed in several phases and comprises three main sections. The first stage has seen the completion of the new Skibladner Pier and its adjoining Skibladner Square, a new promenade along the inner harbour, and Solplassen. Together, these elements form a cohesive new urban space along the waterfront. Solplassen serves as the city's urban interface with Lake Mjøsa – a place for recreation, activity and celebrations, where landscape and urban life converge.

An important aspect of the methodology throughout the development process has been activating the area through temporary interventions and programming, carried out in parallel with the construction works. This approach has generated early urban life, enabled the testing of functions, and established a solid foundation for future development.
