C.F. Møller Architects chosen as lead consultant for new MIND Museum

In the coming years, a section of the former psychiatric hospital in Middelfart, Denmark, will be transformed into the new museum, MIND, which focuses on mental illness and mental well-being. The transformation of the historical premises has been put out to tender, and C. F. Møller Architects has been selected as the lead architect on the project's building design.

During the pre-qualification round, 13 groups of advisors expressed interest in submitting bids. From these, the three groups of lead consultans — Cubo Architects, Rønnow Architects, and C.F. Møller Architects — were selected to submit proposals for the project. All three participating teams presented well-qualified and creative concepts for the upcoming museum, but after evaluating the proposals, C. F. Møller was chosen for the task.

"It is really gratifying that the right lead consultat has now been found. Middelfart Museum looks forward to collaborating with C.F. Møller, and we are excited to begin the planning process so we can cut the ribbon for MIND in 2026," says Maiken Rude Nørup, Head of Middelfart Museum.

The new MIND museum will be housed in a patient building of the former psychiatric hospital in Middelfart. For over 100 years, the site accommodated thousands of psychiatric patients. With Denmark's largest collection of psychiatric historical artefacts, the history of psychiatry in Denmark is brought to life through exhibitions on changing perceptions of illness and treatment methods, focusing on contemporary relevance and personal stories.

"We are pleased to have been chosen and look forward to continued collaboration with Middelfart Museum. Well-being and welfare are very important to us, and we are proud to contribute to conveying this through the conversion of the former psychiatric hospital (Teglgårdsparken) in Middelfart into the MIND museum. This will tell the story of the place and psychiatry's history while also meeting modern needs for exhibition facilities and visitors, preserving as much of the original building's character and expression as possible," says Rune Bjerno Nielsen, Partner, Architect, and Head of C.F. Møller's competition department in Aarhus.
