C.F. Møller Architects reinterpretation of the step ladder

C.F. Møller Architects designs a new step ladder for Danish manufacturer Gejst in a simple and clear design that combines good, functional qualities with a beautiful and graphic expression.

The step ladder is called REECH and is a practical small piece of furniture for the home; designed to make everyday life easier and more beautiful. REECH is ideal in any room of the house helping to reach the top shelves and cupboards, but it can also be used in the corner of the living room for plants, as extra seating, or in the kitchen when the children help with the cooking. There is no doubt that REECH will fit well in any home where good and durable design is appreciated. It is foldable and designed to hang on the wall, so it is always close at hand when you need to reach for something.

"We wanted to make a virtue out of the occasional nature of the step ladder. Our starting point was therefore to make a small ladder/fold-out chair that also looks good hanging on the wall. I think we've succeeded very well in accommodating both, so REECH functions simply and effectively as a ladder, while looking beautiful on both floor and wall," says Jon Brøcker, Head of Product Design at C.F. Møller Architects.

Wholeness and detail
The design is simple and logical to make the use of the step ladder intuitive. REECH is constructed as two black-stained oak frames that meet in characterful brass hinges. When unfolded, the ladder therefore appears as an unbroken strip with a triangular side profile, securely fixed by the ladder's upper, deep rungs in curved, lacquered steel plate. When the ladder is folded, the same step is held in the vertical position by a discreet and refined magnetic solution that very well illustrates the approach to the detailing of the furniture.

The REECH step ladder is the latest addition to the range of small furniture and accessories C.F Møller Architects has designed for Gejst. Previously, C.F. Møller designed the Retell notice board and the Svip side table for Gejst.
