In Täby Municipality just outside Stockholm, Täby Park is developing, a new modern urban district with a focus on long-term sustainability. The planning process began in 2015 and the project is expected to take 25 years to complete. Täby Park is one of Sweden's largest urban developments, with 6,000 homes and 5,000 workplaces as well as schools, services and elderly housing. In the development of the new district, concern for the long-term well-being of people and the environment is fundamental.

Out of 20 submissions for the design concept of the urban park, Täby Municipality chose to go ahead with C.F. Møller Architects. The new park is ten hectares and will be built on land that partly belonged to Täby Galopp, which until 2016 was Scandinavia's largest racecourse.

"We are honoured that Täby Municipality has chosen us to be part of the team planning Täby Park's new urban park. C.F. Møller Architects has a significant history in landscape architecture and in recent years we have expanded our scope in Sweden. The project gives us a unique opportunity to design an inclusive urban park, demonstrating the potential to create a robust green passage in a densely built-up area. As well as integrating large-scale rainwater management with various features desired by future users. The close cooperation with Täby municipality also includes experts in lighting design and plant design. We look forward to continuing the exciting work", says Jelmar Brouwer, Head of Landscape for C.F. Møller Architects in Sweden.

A place for everyone

The new park is an important part of the development of the Täby Park district and the plan is based on creating encounters between all the residents of the area. Economic, social and ecological sustainability will permeate the planning and implementation of the urban park. It will be a place for everyone, where issues of safety, inclusion, equality and accessibility are accommodated. The park serves many purposes, one of which is to encourage play, sport and physical activity. The other is to provide residents with peace and tranquillity.

Part of the land that will be transformed into a park currently consists of existing nature, such as wooded hills that are partly rich in ancient monuments. These important natural values will be preserved and expanded, so that the city park will have a strong ecological connectivity within Täby Park.
