C.F. Møller Architects is among six selected to move forward with a solution for sustainable architecture under the initiative "Housing from 4 to 1 planet", which aims to reduce CO2 emissions from housing by 75%

 

The "Housing from 4 to 1 Planet" initiative invited architects to submit their solutions for climate-friendly architecture and materials with a carbon footprint of a quarter of the current standard. The initiative is motivated by the fact that Denmark consumes four times more than our share of the Earth's total resources. And construction is a major source of CO2 emissions.

 

More than 70 proposals were submitted, and the jury has selected six solutions, from which C.F. Møller Architects is one of those selected to move forward to the next round with their pioneering concept for sustainable housing "GAIA - life cycles within boundaries", which rethinks the Nordic building tradition with a focus on behavior, construction, materials, and climate challenges.

 

The jury states:

"The proposal is a comprehensive program for building transformation rather than a defined housing concept. It presents solutions for all building typologies that point in the direction of a total footprint of 0 kg CO2/m2.

The proposal explores the possibility of developing the Nordic housing tradition by simultaneously rethinking human behavior ("life-of-people"), construction and materials ("life-of-building"), and buildings that minimise while adapting and creating quality of life in a changing climate ("life-of-planet"). The proposal is notable, among other things, in showing how compact, attractive housing can look in multi-storey buildings."
