C.F. Møller Architects and Sveafastigheter have been assigned a land allocation for housing for the elderly and care homes in central Simrishamn, Sweden.
In collaboration with C.F. Møller Architects' office in Malmö, Sveafastigheter developed a proposal for tomorrow's housing for the elderly consisting of housing for senior citizens and care homes in central Simrishamn. With a focus on sustainability and good architecture, the homes interact with the proximity to the sea and the harbour as well as with Simrishamn's cityscape. The land allocation includes housing for the elderly with approximately 80 apartments, as well as care homes with 60 apartments.
“This is an exciting land allocation in an attractive place in Simrishamn with a view of the sea and contact with life in the harbour. We have designed the proposal as a park district with integrated architecture that puts the environment and people in focus. We look forward to continuing our enthusiastic collaboration with Sveafastigheter and Simrishamn municipality,” says Ola Jonsson, associate partner and manager at C.F. Møller's office in Malmö.
Focus on the neighbourhood
The housing stock in Simrishamn will be supplemented with lifestyle housing for the elderly with both housing for the elderly and care homes so that more people can remain in their neighbourhood, regardless of their changing needs. Simrishamn's urban development potential is utilised while sought-after housing for the elderly is created in the inner city. The new development creates new points of interest that benefit the entire central Simrishamn area and interact with the city's unique structure. “We are very pleased that Simrishamn Municipality has allocated land for our concept. Our proposal focuses on the unique conditions at the site, good architecture with long-term and responsible ownership as well as self-management. We are now looking forward to a long-term collaboration with Simrishamn Municipality for development of the city”, says Carl Auer, business area manager for care homes at Sveafastigheter.
The development will be a welcome addition to housing for the elderly in Simrishamn. Here, senior citizens can get a chance to live in one of Sweden's most beautiful locations, with good access to service and public transport as well as walking distance to the harbour and the city centre. With solar cells on the rooftops, timber facades and plasterwork, the homes will harmonize with the current buildings in the area. The preliminary construction start will be the start of 2023.
“Being able to offer high-quality housing for the elderly in this beautiful environment is completely in line with our vision for the city and the municipality. The project is based on a holistic concept that we lack in Simrishamn and which we know many are looking for,” says Jeanette Ovesson, Chair of the Municipal Board of Simrishamn municipality.
