C.F. Møller Architects’ proposal regarding Business Connection Trelleborg is based on a circular economy

Together, C.F. Møller Architects and Tyréns make up one of three teams in the competition for Business Centre Trelleborg. The assessment will result in a compilation of good ideas from all three proposals – ideas that can be built on. The compilation will form the basis for continued work and discussion, which in turn will lead to a physical structural plan for the area.

Background
As the port of Trelleborg has to move to a new location in order to meet future shipping requirements, a new ring road and new functions for check-in and setup are needed. This gives Trelleborg Municipality an opportunity to create attractive neighbourhoods in the old port area and develop the old eastern business area with its businesses into a new, future-oriented area with businesses that create added value for the region and Trelleborg. The work is taking place as part of the urban-development project Coastal Town 2025 and in cooperation with the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.

The design assignment is to develop the business centre into a strong, proud and collaborative area. An important part of the assignment is to show how the area, with its existing and new functions, relates to the environment, with its unique values in terms of nature and culture. Within an area of 180 ha, various functions, services and creative meeting places will be developed.

Flexibility, Knowledge and Urban Landscape
C.F. Møller Architects' vision for the area describes a value-creating strategy that seeks to create an attractive and multifaceted development area as a part of town with a strong profile.

The new area will be an innovative and sustainable meeting place where smart circular systems and integrated landscape design contribute positively to the overall experience. The area is a new warehouse in the town that creates attractive new platforms for knowledge-intensive businesses and industry & commerce. Trelleborg and the port constitute a national and international hub for export and import that contributes positively to the town’s overall identity. Cross-fertilisation of businesses with public spaces creates positive synergies and circular links. The multifaceted programme and a clear vision contribute to a destination and meeting place that are rich in experiences.

The interaction between all the area’s different businesses and functions creates the prerequisites for an innovative and bio-based circular economy. A new green neighbourhood that invites the area's neighbours to be an active part of the area. Business Connection Trelleborg will create frameworks for a future Business Centre where intrapersonal encounters are the key to sustainable innovation and a strong international brand for Trelleborg.

“Together, C.F. Möller and Tyréns have successfully visualised what may come to be the strategic criteria for success, in order to attain the qualities we wish to achieve through our collaboration. Through marketing of the area's hallmark of sustainability and experiences, it will become a characteristic of the future BCT,” says Håkan Asmoarp, Business Center Trelleborg’s subproject manager.

Corridors, Entrances and Landscape Embankments
The creation of landscape embankments along Highway 9 will define the adjacent areas as part of the town. The embankment along Business Connection Trelleborg will become an urban landscape element designed to create value. It will at the same time be an infrastructural element, a building and a recreational meeting place. The embankment will bind the entire area to the town, forming an attractive landscape encounter with the residential area to the south. It will be a recreational meeting place in the town where visitors and residents can walk and cycle along the top of the embankment. Special vantage points along the embankment will create visual contact with the coast and the hinterland.

The three proposals of C.F. Møller Architects/Thyréns, Wingårdh Arkitekter/WSP and BSK Arkitekter/A-Nord Arkitekter have been comprehensively assessed by employees at several of the municipality's administrations and by a number of its partners.

"The various teams have sent us three interesting proposals in which they have made interpretations and various assessments of what is important for the area," says Håkan Asmoarp, Business Centre Trelleborg’s project manager.
