The proposal relates strongly to the site - on the outskirts of the urban area, close to attractive woodlands - and the documented positive effect of green surroundings in the healing process.

The complex unfolds like a flower in the landscape, nestled into the topography and centered on the main feature: A large protected garden-space as the heart of the building. The idea is to combine the need for a clear and simple structure for easy wayfinding and orientation with the equally important need for a varied series of spaces to suit the various physical activities and psychiatric therapies each patient requires. The landscape and gardens are drawn all the way into the building complex, to create an environment which allows patients to gradually relate to the surroundings, and re-connect with everyday life.
