Based on sustainable principles and materials, the competition proposal from C.F. Møller represents contemporary Nordic architecture as the framework for a research and teaching environment that can attract the best researchers, with world-class research environments.
The starting point for the proposal is an organically-shaped base on the two lowest floors, which comprise shared functions and teaching premises. Above them are masses with laboratory and office functions.
Via levels, sections and the mass structures the proposal creates proximity and interdisciplinary contact between the individual research groups.
A key aspect of the proposal is the choice of materials, which is of great significance to the building's environmental impact, climate and the project's architectural embodiment. Based on a cyclical perspective from production, transport, construction, use, reuse and maintenance, materials have been selected that will age with dignity - as materials that will weather beautifully and strengthen the building's character over the years.
