Spinning Mills Vejle, dyeworks and boiler complex

The former Vejle Spinning Mills are to be converted into a new creative cluster of culture and business. As part of the transformation, the former dye-works and boiler house are to be turned into a centre for education, start-up businesses and film-production school.

The boiler house, with its dramatic interior and massive brick-boiler are proposed to contain the film-school, with a small cinema, a sound recording studio (in the former boiler volume) and production facilities. Similarly, the former dye-works’ two halls are to house an educational centre for young entrepreneurs, and spaces for business start-ups.

A new intermediate building, in the form of a ‘muscular’ bridging link, connects the two institutions at first-floor level, and provides a new central entrance. As intended in the masterplan of the entire complex, the industrial heritage and patina of the rugged architecture are maintained visible and unchanged as far as possible, by adding new volumes and spaces as free-standing ‘houses within a house’.
