At the same time, they are also sustainable constructions which meet the requirements towards 'passive houses'. The names of the buildings draw upon a metaphorical language inspired by Langelinie's present principal landmark, the statue of the Little Mermaid, and the buildings comprise strong, sculptural interpretations with references to both the past and the future, forming a distinctive conclusion to Langelinie Quay. The Mermaid Tower rises 148 metres above Marmormolen Quay as a slim sculpture in a facetted, crystalline form. The building represents the new, futuristic urban district which is planned to be built here. The Rock, on Langelinie Quay, resembles two rocks leaning against one another. The Rock is dedicated the old part of the harbour, and is clad with brick fillings. The two buildings are linked at a height of 65 metres by a bridge of glass and steel anchored in the Rock, resembling the arm of a crane which lightly touches the Mermaid Tower.
